Its amazing how we as artists could be so immersed in something and then almost simultaneously develop a distaste for it. I worked on a project which explored the physical representations of the self identified butch femme community in the bay area. This is all quantified by the inherent limitations of the still image in telling a full story…however beautiful the images and important documentation of part of my community are…I am still on a vision quest for what, if anything marks our identities as people, as brown people, as californians, as queers, the list is endless. I guess at a certain point the project just began to feel like I was trying to condence complexities into snapshots. Still conflicted, I realise our lives are compiled of a billion single moments like the ones you see here. Enjoy! ~Lexa K.
